Ice maker repair in Miami: built-in, undercounter and in-door units
An ice maker needs three things to work: water coming in, enough cold, and a way out for the water it doesn't use. We repair undercounter and built-in ice makers and the ice makers inside refrigerators, in Miami homes and condos.

Two kinds of ice maker
A refrigerator ice maker is a small module in the freezer or in the door. A valve fills a tray, freezer air freezes it, and the module releases the cubes, usually by warming the tray for a moment and sweeping them out, or by twisting it.
A standalone undercounter ice maker is a refrigeration machine of its own. Many make clear ice by running water over a chilled plate so it freezes in layers, then warming the plate briefly to release it; some drop a slab onto a grid of heated wires that cuts it into cubes. Because these machines recirculate the water they don't freeze, they are sensitive to scale.

Undercounter units: water in, water out
An undercounter ice maker needs a water supply and a drain. With a floor drain or a standpipe below, it drains by gravity; without one, a drain pump lifts the water out. A pump that fails or a drain line that clogs leaves water on the floor, and many units shut themselves off to stop the overflow.
Inside, the usual suspects are the inlet valve, the pump that circulates water over the plate, the level float, the bin sensor and the valve that warms the evaporator at harvest. We repair the ice maker and its own valve, pump and drain parts; a clogged house drain or a leaking supply line in the wall is a plumber's job.
Scale and cleaning
Tap water carries dissolved minerals, and an ice maker concentrates them. Scale coats the evaporator, the water distributor and the sensors, and the symptoms creep in slowly: thin or hollow cubes, ice that won't release, smaller batches, water left standing in the sump.
Cleaning on the schedule in the owner's guide prevents most of it. Use the cleaner the guide names: some evaporators are nickel-plated, and the wrong acid ruins the plating.
What it is doing, and what that usually means
Bin empty, no water filling
A closed supply valve, a failed inlet valve, a fill tube frozen solid or an overdue filter.
Thin or hollow cubes
Low water flow from scale, a clogged filter or a weak valve; on clear-ice units, scale on the plate.
Fills and freezes but never drops ice
The harvest valve, a sensor or the control on a standalone unit; on a refrigerator, the ice maker module.
Water on the floor under an undercounter unit
A failed drain pump, a clogged drain line or a loose drain fitting.
Ice clumped in the door bucket
Humid air leaking into the ice compartment, or the fan that cools it.
Ice makers in the refrigerator door
On many French-door models, ice is made in an insulated compartment in the fresh-food door, cooled by air ducted from the freezer. When humid air gets in, through a worn compartment seal or a chute flap that stays open, frost builds around the ice maker, cubes clump in the bucket and water can drip down the door.
Other in-door faults: the fan that blows cold air into the compartment, a frozen fill tube, an auger motor stalled on fused ice, and the dispenser switches.
When it fills but won't freeze, or freezes but won't drop ice
On a standalone unit, a machine that fills and runs but makes little ice often has a dusty condenser behind the front grille or a condenser fan that has stopped. One that freezes the plate but never harvests points to the harvest valve, a sensor or the control.
If the refrigeration side has failed, finding the leak and repairing it is sealed-system work, done by EPA 608 certified technicians.

Repairs
Before you call
A few checks first:
- Make sure the ice maker is switched on; many have a switch, a wire arm or an ice-off setting on the display.
- Check that the water valve feeding the unit is open and the filter is not long overdue.

Tell us the type of ice maker, the brand, what it is doing and whether there is water on the floor. Dispatch will call back with a realistic arrival window.
Name, phone and the appliance are enough. Dispatch calls back, and we agree on a realistic arrival window rather than promise one we can't keep.
