Wolf ranges and rangetops

Wolf ranges come in dual-fuel, all-gas and induction versions. A dual-fuel range pairs gas burners on top with an electric oven below, so an oven fault and a burner fault are two different repairs.

A rangetop is the burner section on its own, set into the counter with the knobs on the front. Many Wolf ranges and rangetops also have a griddle or an infrared charbroiler alongside the burners.

Wolf's dual-stacked sealed burners run a high flame on the upper tier and a low simmer on the lower one. When the simmer won't hold, or a lit burner keeps clicking, the cause is usually the burner, its cap, the electrode, the valve or the spark system.

Wolf wall ovens

Wolf wall ovens come in single and double versions, with convection and self-clean. Their usual failures are the ones any high-heat oven has: bake and broil elements, the convection fan, the temperature sensor, the door lock, the hinges and the control.

Self-clean is hard on any oven. If the door stays locked long after the oven has cooled, or the oven stops heating after a cleaning cycle, a lock part, a thermal fuse or the control has usually given out.

Some repairs need the oven slid forward out of its cabinet. It is heavy, so that is done slowly, with the trim and the cabinet face protected.

Cooktops, warming drawers, steam and speed ovens

Wolf cooktops come in gas, electric and induction. A gas burner that won't light is usually wet, misaligned or dirty at the spark electrode. An induction zone that ignores the pan or shows an error points to the pan, the cooling fan or the electronics under the glass.

Warming drawers are simple machines: an element, a thermostat and a control. Steam ovens add water and scale, and descaling when the oven asks for it keeps them running.

Speed ovens combine convection and microwave parts. The microwave side can hold a high-voltage charge even when unplugged, so it is not a do-it-yourself repair.

What it is doing, and what that usually means

Burner keeps clicking after it lights

The re-ignition system thinks the flame is out: often a wet or dirty electrode, a cap out of place, or a wiring or grounding fault.

No spark on any burner

Usually the spark module or its wiring. If only one burner is silent, look at that burner's switch or electrode.

Low simmer goes out

A cap that is not seated, clogged ports on the lower tier, or the burner valve.

Oven won't reach temperature

A bake or convection element, the temperature sensor or the control.

Door locked after self-clean

Once the oven has fully cooled, a door that stays locked points to the lock motor, the lock switch or the control.

Induction zone won't recognize the pan

Check the pan with a magnet first. If the magnet sticks, the problem is in that zone's electronics or the cooling fan.

Gas on a Wolf range

On a gas Wolf, our work covers the appliance: burners, igniters, spark modules, burner valves and controls.

We do not repair the gas supply line, the piping or the shutoff valve. That is work for a gas line contractor or your gas utility.

If you smell gas, leave the knobs alone and do not flip any switch. Leave the house and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.

Common questions

Asked about Wolf repair

Is an older Wolf range worth repairing?
Usually. Burners, igniters, spark modules, valves, elements and sensors are replaceable. Controls for older models can be harder to find; if yours is one of them, that is the first thing you learn.
Why is my oven's convection fan noisy?
A worn fan motor bearing, or a blade rubbing its cover. It is worth fixing early, before the motor stops and the oven starts baking unevenly.
Can I clean the burners myself?
Yes, with the range cool and all knobs off: lift off the grates and caps, clean the ports with a soft brush, dry everything, and make sure each cap sits flat before you light it. A wet burner will click until it dries.
Do you repair Wolf steam and speed ovens?
Yes. Steam ovens, speed ovens and warming drawers are among the Wolf appliances we repair, along with ranges, rangetops, cooktops and wall ovens.
