Sub-Zero repair in Miami: built-in columns, drawers and wine storage

A Sub-Zero is built into the kitchen, so a failure is never just a warm box. We repair Sub-Zero built-in refrigerators, columns, undercounter drawers, wine storage and ice makers in Miami homes and condos. We are an independent repair company, not affiliated with Sub-Zero Group, Inc.

The Sub-Zero appliances we repair

Classic built-in refrigerators, side-by-side and over-and-under; integrated refrigerator and freezer columns hidden behind cabinet panels; undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers; wine storage, from undercounter units to full columns; and undercounter ice makers.

If you are not sure which one you have, the model number tells us. It is printed on a rating label inside the unit, and the owner's guide shows where.

How a Sub-Zero is built, and why it matters for repair

On many Sub-Zero built-ins the compressor and condenser sit at the top, behind the grille, and the unit is designed to be serviced from the front. That is why many repairs happen in place, without sliding the unit out of its opening.

Many Sub-Zero built-ins use two separate cooling systems, one for the fresh-food side and one for the freezer. One side can fail while the other keeps working, which is worth mentioning when you describe the problem.

Integrated columns and drawers sit flush with the cabinetry. Panels and trim are removed in order and refitted flush, and the cabinet face is protected while the unit is open.

Common problems in a Miami kitchen

A dusty condenser is the first suspect when the unit runs for long stretches and the fresh-food side creeps warm. In a hot, humid kitchen the condenser has more heat to shed, and a clogged one makes the compressor work harder for the same result.

Other frequent faults: condenser and evaporator fans, defrost components, door gaskets and door closers, the water valves feeding the ice maker and dispenser, and control boards, which can be damaged when the power flickers during a storm.

Faults in the sealed system are rarer: a refrigerant leak, a restriction or a compressor that no longer pumps. Those repairs are done by EPA 608 certified technicians.

What it is doing, and what that usually means

Fresh-food side warm, freezer fine

On a unit with two cooling systems, a fault on the fresh-food side only: a fan, a defrost part or that side's sealed system.

Runs constantly

Usually a dirty condenser or a failing condenser fan; less often, a refrigerant problem.

Ice maker stopped

The water valve, a frozen fill tube, a clogged water filter or the ice maker itself.

Water inside the drawers or under the unit

A blocked defrost drain, a drain pan problem or a leaking water line to the ice maker.

Door doesn't close on its own

A worn door closer or hinge, a door out of alignment, or a gasket that has lost its shape.

Wine zone drifting off temperature

A fan, a temperature sensor, a door seal or the control.

Wine storage and ice makers

Wine storage often has two temperature zones, and a zone that drifts off its setting usually points to a fan, a sensor, a door seal or the control. Condensation on the glass is often a door that is not sealing, or a room far more humid than the cabinet.

Undercounter ice makers need a working water supply and a working drain, often with a drain pump. An empty bin, small or cloudy cubes or water on the floor usually trace back to the water valve, the drain, scale buildup or the ice-making assembly.

Our work and the warranty

Our repairs on Sub-Zero appliances carry a warranty of up to 12 months on parts and labor.

We are a family-owned company with 15+ years of repair experience. Our technicians are background-checked, the parts we fit are genuine OEM, and our work is insured.

If the unit is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact the manufacturer first, since warranty repairs go through its own service network.

Common questions

Asked about Sub-Zero repair

Does a Sub-Zero have to come out of the cabinetry for a repair?
Usually not. Many Sub-Zero built-ins are serviced from the front, through the top grille. Some repairs on integrated units need the unit moved forward, and you are told before that happens.
Is an older Sub-Zero worth repairing?
Often, yes. Fans, gaskets, valves, controls and sealed-system components can be replaced on older units. Parts for some discontinued models are harder to find.
How often should the condenser be cleaned?
Follow the owner's guide. As a rule, a couple of times a year, and more often in a dusty or hot kitchen. Switch the unit off first and use a soft brush.
Do you repair Sub-Zero wine storage and ice makers?
Yes. Wine storage and undercounter ice makers are among the Sub-Zero appliances we repair, along with built-in refrigerators, columns and drawers.
