Refrigerator repair in Miami, from built-in columns to French-door units

In Miami heat, a refrigerator that drifts a few degrees warm becomes a spoiled-food problem by evening. We repair built-in, French-door, side-by-side and top-freezer models in your kitchen, everyday and premium brands alike.

What usually goes wrong

Most refrigerator failures come down to a short list: a fan that stopped, a defrost system that quit, a drain that froze over, or a door that no longer seals. The technician confirms which one with a test, not a guess.

The rarer faults sit in the sealed system: the compressor, condenser, evaporator and the lines between them. A refrigerator does not use up refrigerant. A low charge means a leak, and topping it up without fixing the leak only postpones the failure.

Built-in columns and French-door units in Miami condos

A built-in column sits flush in the cabinetry with no open space behind it. It breathes through a grille at the top or the toe-kick, and when the condenser behind that grille clogs with dust, the compressor runs long and the fresh-food side drifts warm. Panels and trim come off and go back on with care: on these units the cabinetry is part of the appliance.

French-door models, often fitted into tight condo alcoves, have their own weak points: the hinged strip between the doors that both gaskets have to seal against, an in-door ice maker that can ice over, and a freezer drawer whose defrost drain can freeze shut.

Heat and humidity are part of the diagnosis

Every door opening lets humid South Florida air in. The moisture lands on the evaporator as frost, and the defrost system clears it on a regular cycle. When a defrost heater, sensor or control fails, frost builds until air stops moving, and the fresh-food side warms while the freezer still feels cold.

Worn door gaskets show up fast in this climate: sweating along the door edge, frost near the seal, water at the bottom of the cabinet. Long run times are normal in July. A compressor that never stops in a cool kitchen is not.

What it is doing, and what that usually means

Freezer cold, fresh-food side warm

Usually the evaporator fan, or a defrost failure that has blocked the airflow between the two sections.

Frost on the back wall of the freezer

The defrost system: the heater, the defrost thermostat or sensor, or the control that runs the cycle.

Water under the crisper drawers

Usually a blocked or frozen defrost drain, so meltwater spills inside instead of reaching the drain pan.

A click every few minutes, no cooling

The compressor is failing to start. The cause is the start relay, the overload or the compressor itself, and the technician tests which.

Ice maker stopped making ice

Often the water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or the ice maker module. An overdue water filter can slow the fill too.

Sealed-system work by EPA 608 certified technicians

Federal rules require EPA Section 608 certification to open a refrigerant circuit, and our sealed-system work is done by EPA 608 certified technicians.

The order is fixed: find the leak or the failed component, repair it, fit a new filter-drier, pull a deep vacuum, then weigh in the charge listed on the rating plate. Skipped steps are why some refrigerators come back warm soon after a quick recharge.

On an older unit, a sealed-system repair can cost close to a replacement. You hear that before any work starts, and the decision stays with you.

Before you call

Two minutes of checks make the call more useful.

  • A refrigerator should hold 40°F or below and a freezer 0°F. Check the setting first.
  • Listen. A silent fan, or a click every few minutes with no hum after it, narrows the problem down.
  • Don't chip at frost on the freezer wall. A sharp tool can puncture the evaporator.
  • Move perishables to a cooler. USDA guidance is to throw out perishable food that has been above 40°F for two hours or more.

Common questions

Asked about refrigerator repair

Is it worth repairing an older refrigerator?
Often, yes. Fans, defrost parts, gaskets, valves and controls are repairable at any age. The harder call is a failed compressor on an older unit, and the technician lays out both options.
Can a built-in refrigerator be repaired without pulling it out?
In most cases, yes. Built-ins are designed to be serviced from the front, through the grille and the kick plate. Moving the unit is the exception.
Which refrigerator brands do you repair?
Everyday brands such as Whirlpool, GE, Samsung and LG, and premium built-ins such as Sub-Zero, Thermador, Miele and Liebherr. We are an independent company, not affiliated with any manufacturer.
How do I keep a refrigerator healthy in Miami?
Vacuum the condenser grille or coils a couple of times a year, keep the gaskets clean and change the water filter on schedule.
